During the well- attended and useful debates at the “Candidates Night’ on 3 March the continuing need for a “master plan” was raised several times by both candidates and members of the audience so SHMA finds it appropriate to summarize where the matter stands. First and foremost our administration has been spending most of their time and energy on negotiations with GM, in the belief that the enormity of this project will dictate the content and direction of any master plan. Secondly, it has to recognize that completion of a competent plan will be a very costly business, no less than a quarter of a million dollars by most estimates. Unfortunately the long deferred need for a plan now coincides with a severe and likely prolonged budget crunch, though the Village has managed to set aside some funds in the current budget proposal to begin work.

An obvious question arises as to whether GM is the cart before the horse and that negotiations on this project should have been conducted within the framework of a master plan for the entire area. Some of the continuing obstacles to approval of the Special Permit to GM such as the lack of an assured water supply and the unresolved traffic headaches to and from the GM site underline the price this and previous village administrations are paying for the lack of a clear direction on where and how the entire area is headed over the next 50 years.

SHMA, working with PMIA, intends to diligently press for serious investment in a Master Planning Initiative as soon as possible

YARD WASTE DIRECTIVE – Yard Waste (without dirt) must be put in biodegradable bags.   Branches must be tied in bundles and should not exceed 4 feet in length.  Loose leaves can only be put at the curb from Oct 1 – Dec 31.
